Pre-Prep

Art is enjoyed from the very earliest age at Chandlings, using a variety of media.  The children are encouraged to develop their creative talents and fine motor skills are developed through drawing, colouring, painting, cutting, sticking and constructing.

Prep

The fabulous grounds at Chandlings provide the opportunity for landscape studies at any age. From Year 3 onwards the children enjoy using a variety of media in our impressive studio, which is well equipped complete with kiln. The aim is to enhance the technical skills of the children whilst positively encouraging creativity.

The syllabus in Year 4 includes colour investigations. The paint mixing exercises and experiments look effective, and this colour theme continues with the production of an impressive weaving sampler, incorporating a variety of techniques. The children really enjoy making individual hand puppets and they collaborate in groups to produce short, original plays.

Pupils in Year 5 undertake a figure drawing module, building up to a sustained pose using a live model; in their final year children in Year 6 have the opportunity to paint the Chandlings landscape on canvas with acrylics.

Visits to the school  from outside artists including sculptors, painters and potters are enormously popular. They demonstrate their skills, enthusing and guiding the children to produce exciting work of their own.
