Music
The Director of Music John Wilson, his assistant Deborah Tyler and thirteen part-time instrumental colleagues welcome you to the music page.
Over a period of ten years we have grown from modest beginnings into one of the most dynamic and productive departments in the school.
EVERY child in the school experiences some form of music in the classroom, during assembly and at song practice EVERY week. At least half the children in the school sign up for more, including learning to play an instrument, singing in a choir, participating in our ensembles and joining the orchestra.
The choice of instruments is amazing, to suit all tastes: piano, voice, violin, ’cello, harp, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, flute, cornet, trumpet, horn, trombone, drum kit, recorder. Extra lessons, given during the course of the school day, inspire our children to play regularly at home and to reach their full musical potential.
The highlights of all this musical activity are our magnificent musical events: inspirational singing every Christmas, concerts in the Spring, a musical drama production at the end of each year together with our bi-annual ‘feast’ that is Music Week.
We are delighted to announce the imminent completion of new, and much longed for, purpose-designed accommodation for the Music Department. From September 2007, children will be taught in two appropriately equipped classrooms for general music, and a further four rooms for specialist music and ensembles. Our suite will be made complete by the addition of an office/studio, cloakroom and ample storage.
