Learning in Lockdown

Moving to online virtual learning in the Summer certainly had its challenges but when one of your members of staff is a Certified Google Innovator, it definitely helps! It was important for us to continue providing a fantastic education for the children whilst keeping the Chandlings community together.

Technology came to the forefront and both teachers and children had to learn several new skills combining traditional classroom learning with new digital applications.

We kept the timetables going using GSuite for Education.

Google Meets enabled teachers to maintain that pastoral link with children by having regular form times, assemblies, the Year 4 Disco and even a picnic with the whole school to celebrate V.E Day.

Google Classroom enabled learning to continue. Children could upload their work and teachers could continually assess how they were progressing. Timetables continued as usual.

All this was accompanied with other techy applications.  Year 3 didn’t miss out on creating their mini museums as they could send them in Book Creator. Year 4 discussed the best castle defences on flipgrid and the whole of Prep filmed their DT and Music creations on screen castify sending them in for all to see.

We were delighted when all the children returned to school in September and hopefully this will continue but if not, we are well prepared. Thank you to all the staff, parents and children for upskilling and keeping Chandlings education going to a very high standard throughout the lockdown.
