What our Children say

School should not only be somewhere a child attends, but also a place where they feel part of a community and have a voice in what goes on. The School Council at Chandlings offer democratically elected groups of students who represent their peers in making Chandlings the best it can possibly be. It aims to enable pupils to become partners in their own education and to make a positive contribution to the school and its environment.

The council often asks the opinion about important school topics in order to find out what pupils think and subsequently make changes. This models democracy in action and develops skills such as communication, co-operation and compromise. It also gives them a sense of responsibility.

Recently the School Council wanted to find out from all Chandlings Pupils what makes Chandlings Chandlings.  Here are their answers.

The children had so many different opinions about what make Chandlings special but coming out on top, by a large margin, were the teachers. This was followed by the grounds, the fun they have at school, our pygmy goats and in fifth place was the food!
