Chandlings donates books to Oxford Children's Hospital

This year Chandlings Prep School has begun a new partnership with the Oxford Children’s Hospital, specifically in their ENT outpatients department.

Chandlings recognised the need that reading is something many children like to do whilst waiting for an appointment.  So, we approached the hospital to find out if any of the departments would be interested in us supplying books from our library for the children, which we would renew on a regular basis.

The senior health play specialist from the ENT Outpatients department came back to us and was thrilled that we could supply books to them on a termly basis.  The books are placed in the specialist surgery outpatients department where children use them constantly.

She said, “We are incredibly grateful to Chandlings School for their continued generosity by donating wonderful books to help entertain and engage our young patients whilst they wait for their appointments. Your tremendous support has allowed us to bring smiles to our patients and their families, at what can be an anxious time.“

“Helping our local community is something that is really important to us at Chandlings Prep School,” said Christine Cook, Head, “and we’re delighted to be donating books to the ENT department at Oxford Children’s Hospital.  Waiting for appointments can often be difficult and worrying, hopefully the books that we provide for the children can be a welcome distraction and make that time a little bit more entertaining and interesting.”

The books were exchanged for the first time at the start of this term and some were also passed on to the trauma department where children attend the fracture clinic and they were also thrilled.

Joe Baker, from the Oxford Children’s Hospital Charity added, “We would like to say a huge thank you to Chandlings School for helping make a difference to our young patients. With your support Oxford Children’s Hospital Charity can continue to help make our very special hospital more comfortable, provide specialist equipment and fill the hospital with fun things to do.”

An article about the donations also appeared in the Oxford Mail.
